德莱克.济慈是南非西好望角省大学的一名教授。他说免费开源软件对于普通人、非政府组织（NGOs）和中小型企业（SMMEs）的影响最大。（原文是最高级）
“我认为免费开源软件真正成功的关键在于设想所有在非洲发生的较小规模活动
：配置了免费开源软件的的中小企业、互联网供应商在创造链接的时候大量使用免费开源软件，通过免费开源软件运行的非政府组织."
济慈说软件源代码或电脑机器码可见性，以及软件可以任意重编或修改，这些都能使用户产生自主感。而他称最大的挑战中有一个是向人们解释开源软件的工作原理和帮助人们的方式。

Experts say that open source software is not only good for Africa because it's free, but also because it allows users to make changes to the source code which () in technology.
